Course Content

Topic 1: NUMBER
Number is the foundation of IGCSE Mathematics. Students learn how to work confidently with integers, fractions, decimals, and percentages, including ordering, rounding, and estimation. The topic also covers ratio and proportion, standard form, powers and roots, and using numbers in real-life contexts such as money, time, and measurement. Strong number skills are essential for accuracy and success across all other maths topics.

Topic 1: NUMBER (Ratio, Proportion and Rates of Change)

Topic 2: ALGEBRA AND GRAPHS
Algebra and graphs focus on using symbols to represent numbers and showing relationships visually. IGCSE students learn to simplify expressions, solve linear and quadratic equations and inequalities, and rearrange formulas. They also study graphs of linear and quadratic functions, understand gradients and intercepts, and interpret how changes in equations affect graphs. This topic builds strong problem-solving skills and is central to many exam questions across all papers.

Topic 3: COORDINATE GEOMETRY
Coordinate geometry is the part of maths that links algebra with graphs. It uses a grid (the x-axis and y-axis) to plot points and study straight lines and shapes. IGCSE students learn how to plot coordinates, find gradients (slopes), write and use the equation of a straight line, and calculate distance, midpoint, and intersections of graphs. It helps students understand how equations behave visually and is essential for solving real exam graph questions.

Topic 4: GEOMETRY
Geometry and Mensuration are all about shapes, angles, and measuring the world around us. Students explore lines, triangles, circles, and 3D shapes while learning clever rules to crack angle problems. Mensuration brings the maths to life by finding areas, perimeters, and volumes (from flat shapes to solid objects). It’s where diagrams meet logic and maths starts to feel real!

Topic 5: MENSURATION
Mensuration is the part of maths that focuses on measuring shapes. IGCSE students learn how to calculate perimeter, area, surface area, and volume of common 2D and 3D shapes such as rectangles, triangles, circles, prisms, cylinders, pyramids, cones, and spheres. It also involves using units correctly, applying formulas, and solving real-life word problems involving length, area, and volume.

Topic 6: TRIGONOMETRY
Trigonometry studies the relationship between angles and sides in triangles. Students learn to use SOH CAH TOA to find unknown sides and angles in right-angled triangles, and apply the Sine Rule and Cosine Rule to solve problems in non-right-angled triangles. Trigonometry is used to calculate heights, distances, and angles, and is an important tool in geometry, mensuration, and real-life problem solving.

Topic 8: PROBABILITY
Probability is the study of how likely an event is to happen. IGCSE students learn to calculate probability using fractions, decimals, or percentages, understand outcomes using sample spaces, and work with theoretical and experimental probability. They also cover combined events, including mutually exclusive events, independent events, and simple tree diagrams, helping students predict outcomes and answer real-life chance problems clearly and logically.

Topic 9: STATISTICS
Statistics is about collecting, displaying, and interpreting data. IGCSE students learn how to use tables, charts, and graphs such as bar charts, pie charts, histograms, and cumulative frequency curves. They also calculate and interpret averages (mean, median, mode) and spread (range), and learn how data can be used to make comparisons, predictions, and conclusions. Clear presentation and accurate interpretation are key to scoring well in exams.

Topic 7: TRANSFORMATIONS AND VECTORS
Transformations and vectors focus on moving shapes and describing movement mathematically. IGCSE students learn to carry out and describe translations, reflections, rotations, and enlargements, including using scale factors and centres of enlargement. They also use vectors to show direction and movement, perform vector addition and subtraction, and solve simple geometric problems using vector notation. This topic strengthens spatial awareness and clear mathematical communication.
