Course Content

Topic 1: Number
In IGCSE Mathematics (0580) Core Number, students work with integers, fractions, decimals and percentages, including converting between them and using the four operations. They learn rounding, estimation, standard form, ratio and proportion, simple interest, and basic speed–distance–time problems. Topic 4: Geometry
Geometry in Core Maths focuses on practical space and shape. You’ll calculate perimeter, area, and volume for real-world projects like flooring or packaging. It includes using Pythagoras for heights, Trigonometry for angles, and scale drawings to interpret maps or blueprints accurately.

Topic 5: Mensuration
Mensuration in Core Maths is the practical science of measurement, focusing on calculating the physical properties of 2D shapes and 3D objects. You will use formulas to determine perimeter for fencing, area for flooring or seeding, and surface area for packaging materials. It also covers volume and capacity, helping you figure out how much a container holds or the amount of concrete needed for a space. Success in this topic relies on accurately converting units (like changing m^2 to cm^2) and breaking down complex, "compound" shapes into simpler rectangles, triangles, or circles to solve real-world construction and logistics problems.

Topic 6: Trigonometry
